Bathukamma festival is being celebrated all over the world from the USA to Australia. Celebrations taken place at Ohio, Albany, Philadelphia, Herndon, Detroit, New Jersey, Austin, Chicago, California, Texas, Connecticut of the United States of America, Singapore, Sharjah and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, London (UK), Malaysia, Melbourne Australia, Tokyo of Japan.
Bathukamma is primarily a women’s festival. It begins on the day of Bhadrapada / Mahalaya Amavasya and concludes on Ashwayuja Ashtami, based on the lunar calendar. Bathukamma is an embodiment of the spirit of Telangana. The festival has become an important part of the cultural renaissance movement of Telangana and has now been accorded the State Festival status in the newly formed state.
Bathukamma is a colourful and vibrant festival of Telangana. Bathukamma festival is celebrated by women, with flowers that grow exclusively in each region. This festival is a symbol of Telangana’s cultural identity. Bathukamma comes during the latter half of monsoon, before the onset of winter. The festival begins a week before the grand ‘Saddula Batukamma’ (the grand finale of the Batukamma festival) which falls two days before Dassera. The women folk normally get back to their parents’ homes from their in-laws and breathe the fresh air of freedom to celebrate the colors of flowers.
